The regular routine service says it takes 6-8 weeks. Is it normal to get it before that time frame?

Right now they're saying it's much longer, the new rules and people preparing for Spring Break, so prepare for it to take 2 months or longer.

What country?

Canada is normally 4-6 weeks but ever since the U.S. has required we have passports to cross over via Air, it has tripled.

And there is no special consideration for showing up in person or having an airline ticket. Still a few months.

And be prepared to stand in line all day... all day (no exaggeration) and don't be surprised if they close the doors on you if the day ends and you're still in line. They are a government agency and closing is closing.

4-6 Weeks is the norm, lately the've been coming right at the 6 week mark, some coming even just a bit later, so you really should allow 8 weeks.
