I have had this problem for about 6 months now and i have had conflicting information from doctors and hairdressers. I have been told that i have got stress related eczema, Psoriasis and plain old dandruff. I have tried the following shampoo's and none have seemed to work:- Alphosyl 2 in 1, Polytar, Head and Shoulders, Vosene, A mixture of mouthwash and witch hazel to rince out shampoo, leaving in conditioner to moisten the scalp, using coconut oil to masage into the hair and scalp. None of these are working for me and my doctor just keeps turning me away to try new things. Its costing me a fortune to try all these products and i dont have a clue what else to try. Could anyone help? Thanks :)

I use Recon made by Lush - they have loads of stores in the UK or mail order website www.lush.co.uk
You massage a small amount into the scalp, leave for 15 mins. Apply shampoo to hair and scalp with out wetting the hair and massage in. Rinse then wash a couple more times, apply conditioner. Use every wash for a week and then once or twice weekly for mainainance.
I have had brilliant results with this and you only use a small amount at a time.
It works for me.

It would help of course to see your scalp.
Eczema of scalp is not very common. The 2 things we see most are seborrheic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis. To be fair to your GP they can look fairly similar. both can occur on the scalp alone of on other parts of the body as well.
Seborrhoea is said by some to be primarily a fungal infection, and by others a type of dermatitis with fungus growing on top. psoriasis is an inherited disorder of skin metabolism.
One preparation might well work on both conditions, Betnovate scalp application applied sparingly twice daily. It would be sensible and harmless to add Nizoral shampoo to this in case there are some fungi there as well.
I don't use potent topical steroids much as a general rule, but the scalp skin is fairly thick and tolerant. About 4 weeks of application + shampoo would be likely to damp things down unless the condition is very severe. Then you can reduce the steroid gradually. The shampoo can be used long term.

I gently scratch all the dandruff from my scalp with a fine comb (40p). Then massage extra virgin olive oil (£3 or so) into your scalp and leave it on for as long as you can (i usually aim for a couple of hours or so). Then wash it out with polytar shampoo (£4 or so) twice. Pat your head dry with a towel (short hair helps) and rub Lancome Homme moisturiser (about £22, ouch) into your scalp. Keeps my dandruff at bay anyway.

If you decide to try the olive oil suggestion I have something to add to that.Mix freshly grated ginger with the olive oil(it's great for circulation among other things) and massage into scalp and hair.Put a shower cap on and leave it in over night. Then shampoo and condition as usual.Do this every night for a week or two,or until you feel like stopping.I have even heard of this as a cure for balding!

There is no way to get rid of dandruff at the time. But you can use Selsun Blue. Selsun Blue has sulfur in it to make the dandruff not so visible. Also my son has dandruff and after he used Selsun Blue it has gotten better and has no itched so much and he also swims so it makes his scalp even dryer. Try cunsulting with the dermatologist and see what he or she says. The dermatologist should be your number one choice for answers.

well I had a friend that suffered from dandruff and his grandfather told him to put olive oil on is scalp every night before going to bed. He did this for 2 weeks and washed his hair the first week with baby shampoo, it worked for him you could try this for yourself. Just remember not to use your best pillow cases

I too tried every single thing on the market and spend hundreds of dollars for a family member. We found T-Gel Shampoo with COAL TAR....It IS WONDERFUL! Went from looking like he just in from a snow blizzard, to just very few! AWESOME STUFF
We even bought the Generic of T-Gel because it was a little pricy, but it was worth every penny! I paid $6.99
GOOD LUCK

You have to use the Head and Shoulders, use the BLUE BOTTLE INTENSIVE CARE! Don't use any other kind, just keep using it for a week or so and it will go away, give it a chance to work! ok hope this works for you, it does work.

Go to a specialist. You might have something other than just plain old dandruff.
