Is someone who repeatedly calls me a pussy to my face, calls me all kinds of insulting and deroggatory names, throws things at me. Is this considered normal in a workplace ?

That s*it would last until I caught that dink in the parking lot. After I slammed his face into the hood of his car about three times I suppose he would get the message.

That is not normal in the workplace, nor is it acceptable. This person is rudeness at its extreme who has no business messing with anybody- period. This is something that requires the involvement of human resources and/or your supervisor. Go to the necessary department or boss immediately- this person's behavior has the potential to escalate into physical violence, and you don't need that.

Combat a mean co-worker? That is rather drastic.

Go to a supervisor or Human Resources.

No, it is not and you don't have to stand for it. Is this really true? I can't imagine anybody throwing things at you. If it's true then go to your supervisor.
