Best thing to do is go to your paint store get a couple of swatches you like stick them to your wall and see which one you still like by the end of the week and paint it that color.

A word of warning....I saw that someone mentioned the Behr website....I also thought that this was a good idea, until I tried it, that is. I found what looked like a gorgeous terra cotta color on there, then I went to the store and ordered it...when the guy finished mixing it, it looked bright orange, the same color as the Home Depot shopping carts...ugh. So, apparently, the color that your computer shows you may be drastically different than the actual color in the paint can.

The best thing to do is to get a lot of the paint chips that you can get for free at the store, then slowly start eliminating the ones you don't like. First, for example, you might decide that you don't like green or red at all, then get rid of them. You're already narrowing it down. Then, when you finally decide what color you do like, then you think about what shade of that color. After you've decided on the shade of the color, then hang the last few on your wall and look at them at different times of day, in different lights, because colors can look quite different with daylight or at nighttime. Over the course of a week or so, you'll start taking those down too, until you're left with just one.

If you're trying to decide to coordinate colors for multiple rooms, it takes more time and careful planning, but use the same process. They even have little booklets, instead of the individual cards, that show you which colors coordinate with each other (pastels, brights, etc). This is what we did, and it took several weeks, but we finally painted each room and coordinated each room and we just love it. The time was definitely worth it. Last but not least, don't be afraid of color (beige and white can be quite boring, in my opinion).

Look at all of your favorite things....clothes, rugs etc....are there colors that seem to occur over and over?

It is great that you are considering colors....white walls shouldn't be legal. Do not let the paint store people talk you into "off white" or some hideous pastel.

Always remember, if this is your first attempt at color it can be scary but it is only paint. If you put it up and hate it what have you lost? The best paint in the world is $30-$40 a gallon.

Take a chance and have a blast!

You really don't need to. I would say just go with white. White is the best color for any space -- and it will make your apartment look bigger. If it's white you'll be able to go with any color theme -- and change it whenever you want to. For example, I would buy tan furniture, and paint the walls white. I would go with a blue and brown theme, so I would buy some chocolate colored, cream colored, and blue colored pillows for my sofa and around the room. Hope that helps you! =)

use a lighter color to give a more spacious look. also try picking a color you like and matches some of the already purchased decor. visit any hardware/paint store and pick out some cards with colors you like. after returning, hold the cards up to the wall and pick your favorite.

Go to www.behr.com
Play with their color program.

Also do some web surfing to learn how paint color affects your apartment depending on it's size and window exposures.

go to a real paint store, not home depot or lowes and talk to them. bring props, things that show some of the colors already in your apt. such as furniture etc. many stores have decorators on staff trained in color consulting. many also sell wet samples you can paint on your wall.
