Keep in mind that I am not a christian or muslim. And I do not support pres. Bush and his party, but I am a proud american citizen. And very happy that there are people willing to die so that I have the right to dissent peacefully and make my own opinions. I am wondering if muslim americans feel the same way.

My husband is Arab-American - born in Yemen and immigrated to the U.S. 25 years ago. He obtained his citizenship as soon as he was eligible. The day he swore allegiance to this county was the proudest day of his life. He left the Arabian Peninsula in order to live in a land of freedom that places highly individual rights and freedoms. He loves our country, our Constitution, our form of government, our land, our scenic beauty and our way of life. He would never consider going back. He came to the U.S. with little education, being a shepherd when he was young. He educated himself, and now holds a degree working in the high tech industry. He has never taken a hand out, been on welfare or subsidized housing. He votes in every election, serves jury duty, does community service and is loved by all who know him. He is an amazing American who happens to be Muslim.

I am neither proud nor ashamed to be an American. I am proud to be a Muslim, the reason behind this is simple - I had no choice, no concious decision to be born in America so how can I take pride or shame in something I had no control over. I am proud to be Muslim because it involved a concious decision to change my life one way or another.

I recognize that each country has benefits and negatives, and while not being particularly patriotic, I recognize that America has offered my the ability to become Muslim and follow my faith as I wish. I feel that if we Muslims born in America do not like it or are ashamed, we should ask what are we doing to change it or its people? I am not in favor of the political agenda in America nor am I fond of certain other issues, I feel it is our job to change what we dont like, be it locations or structure. I would like to work more with changing policy or at least contiue to educate people I come in contact with rearding Islam and our beliefs. Thanks for your question.

American has done a lot of foul things over its history. We stole the Native Americans land. We built our economy on chattel slavery. We were the first to use an atomic bomb. We imperialist weaker nations and tell them its for their own good. And to top it all off, we currently have a president who has proven to be incompetent, misinformed and trigger happy. People who want to dissent against America have plenty of material. However, it is the wealth and abundance that American citizens live in that keeps us all pacified. I like having nice things. What about you? I think that if America were a poorer country, we would be rife with revolution and instability.

I am very proud to be a Muslim American and am thankful for the freedoms and opportunities I have in America. I think that America is very shaded from some of the things that are going on in the middle east though and that they are only told half of the story, which I blame on Bush trying to cover up the mistakes he has made. He was trying to live up to the acheivements of his father, but has fallen quite short. I think that Fox News needs to stop being biased and show not just the things that insurgents in Iraq are doing, but let America also see what I see on Arab Satellite which is women and children laying dead on the floor of their homes. When America gets the truth, then they should judge who are the real terrorists.

Yes, very.

I've lived in the US all my life and I know I would probably not have had the same opportunities if I had lived somewhere else. I am happy to be an American citizen. But there is one thing. I would not fight against a muslim country in war because I disagree with this war very strongly. Is that wrong?

I'm not proud to be an American because of Bush being in Iraq unlawfully and threatening to go into Iran and Syria.

ok for the record i do not care what religion you are to answer this. i myself used to be a christian. but then i became a muslim. i am confused on what people in america are talking about when they say "we have freedoms" the correct term should be we have the illusion of freedom. there are many laws that contradict every so called freedom we have in this country, freedom in this country is only for the wealthy. as in any where in the world. i grew up below the poverty line in connecticut. i have witnessed things in my child hood that are non existent in some of these prodominatly muslim countries that would have warrented ones head to be cut off. i see that the american people have problems that their own governmnet can not solve. i see that the american people have a family moral system that is virtually non existent. i am speaking for the majority. i see a failed justice system. i see a country that has more prisoners then any other country in the world. over 2 million incarserated people. these numbers are staggering. we have a higher crime rate then any other industrialized nation in the world. the reedoms i see in thsi country are freedoms that no good comes from it. example. it is alright to cheat on your spouce and nothing happens to you. in other countries a man or woman who does such a thing can face hanging. this keeps the family moral tight. viewed by some as barbaric but in the end the people can sleep at night knowing the law will protect them. i see in other countries people have a grasp on their children. they are ALLOWED to disapline their children. what ever it takes to make them listen. here in much of the us you can not even spank your child. hense an over run foster system and millions of displaced children. i see to many single mothers who are forced to raise their children with an unsupervised setting, why because our nation does not care to make the laws stiff for people who decide to sire their children. in other countries not just muslim countries girls are kept chaste. meaning they are not devirginized before marriage. just this act with in it self generally displays self control. this ensures trust with in the marriages to come. the men know that their wives are trust worthy. which in turn keeps the family moral on the up and ups. the decisions that the politics make in this country shows me that from a so called democratic country the majorty of the people here are morally corrupt and could care less what horrible conseqences they inflict on the rest of the world. one major example i would like to point out iis the fact that us soilders are sent to iraq, the us government is funding this war with the tax payers money and the prphets from stolen oil money ripped from the iraqi people are sent to global corporations and our rich politicians oil companies. how the american people can allow this and turn a blind eye is beyond me. last time i checked freedom should never be applied to ignorace. the checks and balances system in this two party government destroys life for the average american. on a plus side i must say apart from some of the gulf countries we do have the best medical system. although i would say it has been slipping in the last couple decades. this country takes care of illegal immigrants where other countries would not bother to help their own citizens. this country does not allow a monopoly. although we see some businesses fitting the descriptions. this country has more oppurtunity then any other natiion in the planet and on some levels allows muslims to practice their religion more then the majoriy of muslim nations world wide. so in the end i can say i am proud of my land. america. but not proud of the MAJORTY of the american people.

I'm British and from a Muslim background, and whilst patriotism isn't as valued in Britain as in America, I like it here, I like the people, and I suppose I could say I'm proud to be British.
