So the laws of attraction couldn't possibly have been created by God? If you believe God created the universe, then scientific laws such as "like attracts like" would have to come from him, no?
It's simply saying that if you have an attitude of gratitude and are thankful for your blessings you will attract more blessing into your life. How does this go against God's teachings?
"The joy of the Lord is my strength".. people who are joyful and thankful for their blessings ARE using this "secret".

This philosophy comes from Descartes idea that "I think therefor, I am" in that one can only truly know of themselves... and should and can only trust themselves... also this would really go against God, having confidence in yourself is good, but to the point that you raise yourself above God is another... if the secret is that you must reject God and worship yourself then i see error... I believe there is a line...we are God to rely on Gods provisions... but sometime they come through hard work and somethings take a bit of confidence in yourself to do those things, but don't forget that even, that confidence comes from God... and success come from God... so be sure to give to God the glory of the success, also make sure you know the condition of your heart... if you long for success and not glorification of God then you are already in the wrong... as yourself to whom am i searching for success...
good luck praises be to God

I currently have not read the book the question mentions. 'Relying on our own strength' is part of the problem with 'Christianity' here in the USA presently. Using our strength is one thing; relying on our strength is a whole 'nother aspect. It in effect puts our strength ahead of God's.

I have never read it. But I have heard about it. Yes, things like "The Secret" and law of attraction go completely against God and His word. It is promoting the same lie that the serpent (Satan) tempted Eve with in the Garden of Eden: "You will be like God".
The law of attraction is not of God; it is of the devil. If you are a Christian, you should not be practicing law of attraction. And, for that matter, nobody should be practicing law of attraction. Practicing law of attraction is the sin of idolatry. It is an abomination against God.

It shouldn’t conflict with you religion. Biblical quotes refer to messages saying, “do not ask for what you want but see it as already yours”. That’s The Secret plain and simple in Gods own words!
As a teacher of The Secret I now recommend The Secret DVD to everyone. http://www.astralcafe.com/win.htm
Here's a review and 22 lessons learned from The Secret DVD http://www.astralcafe.com/does-the-secret-really-work.htm

"Heaven forbid" humans should rely on their brain as a tool of cognition, instead of a "holy book", or tea leaves, or a medicine man, or the sun, or multiple gods, or fate, or luck, or tarot cards, or a psychic.
99% of the world's problems are because humans DON'T think, or that they rely on divine spirits to tell them what to do....and I include GWB and the Iranian president and OBL in that group.
The world will be a better place when we evolve beyond the current "dark ages".

Any time you don't put God first you risk the danger of relying on yourself, which isn't really a good idea

You watched the Secret and still don't get it? WE ARE GOD! Even if you don't believe it...the bible didn't want you do rely on God, he wanted you to rely on yourself and use him when needed! So no it does not go against God in any way!
