Why is it difficult for the U.S. to fight against the Taliban and al Queda in afghanistan?

First off The Taliban is an illusion the media has created to keep the war going. And the terrorist groups that exist are either muslims who were trained by the CIA, or just people simply defending their land against the US crime syndicate. They have to create an opposition to justify their corruption.

1- Nobody has ever been able to conquer the country.
2- The US historically has proven very poor against guerrilla tactics.
3- The Taliban are locals, fighting for control of their own land.
4- Attitude ("Just go in and kick some ***!" - underestimated enemy)

Erudite - I seem to remember WW2 going for 6 years and involving a few more countries then that. Great Britain and the USSR come to mind.

Having spent a year over there, the terrain is all mountainous, we are fighting in 6000 - 8000 ft altitude. If we go get them we are going uphill any military strategist will tell you it is easier to defend when you have the high ground. The Afghans are afraid of what the Taliban will do when they get back. They are all awaiting the spring "offensive" to begin, I think they have been getting many martyrs from other countries as well as a build up of arms from Iran (as we will find out soon). Now whether they will stand and fight is another matter or come chase the infidels out. It is not like we are not gearing up for that. What we need is the Pakistanis to shut the door to there country when they depart.

A few reasons: You never know who the enemy is. They look like everyone else and they hide in neighborhoods filled with civilians. They strike and then run.

Those are the things that first pop into my head.

They realize that they cannot fight directly against us. They are trying to adapt so they can kill us efficiently while reducing casualties to a minimum. To achieve this they hide, sabotage, suicide bomb, blend in with crowds, etc.

This is hard to fight against, especially when you do not know who your enemy is.

Because they're a bunch of ******* who insist on hiding in caves, fighting like cowards. They know we would kick their candy-asses if they come down and fight like MEN.

Amazing! We are getting beat by a bunch of rag tag insurgents who use basic weapons. We are the most powerful military in the world but they are beating us. We beat Japan and Germany in three and one half years but can't beat a bunch of people who live like the flintstones.
