Check out the independent insurance agencies in your town, rather than go with a name-brand company that only sells their product (State Farm, Allstate, etc.) because an independent agent compares the rates from several different companies and they do the shopping for you, and the name brand companies are usually A LOT higher and have more restrictions. I'm an insurance agent, and our office compares 10 different companies to give you the best price for your situation. Also, you can get a quote in just a few minutes while you wait. The problem with online-only companies (like e-surance) is that if you do have a claim or a problem, you don't have anyone to speak to face to face about it, and their prices are not any cheaper than an independent agent can find for you.

There is a site where you can compare a bunch of different insurance companies to find out which one will give you the best price. You can look at Progressive, Esurance, and a few others. Most of them will give you quotes online, which I think is cool since you don't have to talk to anyone.

Depends on your state and your situation. Progressive.com is one company that will give online quotes and even offers up estimates from other companies. They might not always be the cheapest, but it's worth a shot.
