I have a few tats and am so addicted to getting more. I recently converted to a babtist church and my grandmother says it is a sin to have tattoos. She says that god will forgive what I have done before I was saved, but I am pretty literate in the bible and not so sure that tattooing is a sin. What should I do?

its a little late now is it not? you already have a few tattoos. if you enjoy them then get more. im baptist myself and i dont believe tattooing is a sin. that doesnt make you a bad person and mean your going to hell. just because you sit in a church every sunday doesnt automatically make sure you go to heaven. if your a good person then no worries.

Right there with you on that one. I'm a pentacostal & I have several also and want more, but I kinda wonder if it's a sin or not. I heard a Christian radio program a few years ago & the caller asked the preacher the same thing. He answered that in the bible, people used to tattoo images of other gods, etc and that's a bad thing. But today's tattoo's are different and are more of a vanity issue than anything. i don't think if you have a flower or a picture of your child tattooed on you etc, that it's wrong. However, I do think that evil, dark, death related tatts are not right if your a Christian. I think every denomination interprets the bible differently so you need to ask yourself if you think it's a sin. Pray about it, the Lord will guide your heart :o)

Well, I don't believe tattooing is a sin but if you want more tattoos you just have to accept the consequences. If your Grandma has some extreme Christian views that would affect your relationship with her if you did get more tattoos, and you want to have a good relationship with her, then you have to make a choice. In the end it may be as simple as choosing between having more tattoos and having a good relationship with your Grandmother. If you want a good relationship with her you probably shouldn’t get anymore tattoos.

I think this question has more to do with your relationship with your Grandmother than it does with Christianity or Baptists for that matter. Chances are you’re not going to be able to change the beliefs of your Grandmother has at this point in her life.

I'm a Baptist, and I've never heard that it was a sin to have a tat. Do keep in mind that your body is God's temple, so you probably won't want some naked chick tattoo or curse words, ya know? But pray in earnest, and God will answer ... also pray that Grandma will be glad that you're saved more than mad that you're tattoo'd.

the bible advises against many things including (in the old testament) having tattoos because tattoos back then were to pagan gods in rememberance of the dead. the bible also says that women may only pray with their heads covered. and it instructs people to stone women who have an adulterous affair as well as not eating certain foods and sacrificing animals. SOME religions still practice many of the laws put forth in the old testament but many do not. i am a christian and do not believe that having or getting tattoos will condemn you to hell. it is not the earthly acts that get us into heaven but the belief that Jesus is the son of God and that he died on the cross to save you from your sins . you should decide what you believe for yourself.

i don't think God really cares about your tattoos. if you believe he loves you, then he loves you for everything you have done, and everything you will do, no provisions.

i was brought up roman catholic, and i also don't remember reading anything about tattoos being sinful. i don't even know how they could be sinful. but then again, i haven't been to church in many years, so maybe some things changed that i don't know about?

be at peace with yourself!

It is not a sin. And I have a pretty good feeling that if you love God and devote your live to living a fulfilling and faithful existence that nothing bad would come of it.

Your grandmother is judging your based on your appearance and its also not her place to condemn you for what you have done. I would tell her that God still loves you, he's always loved you and she cannot question that.

that comes from a very small passage that says not to mark your body for the dead.
I don't think that the tattoos will be a deal breaker - it is what is in your heart that GOD looks at.
Ask GOD to show you if they are a hindrence to others and if you need to get them out of your life ( as in not getting more ). HE will direct you.

I am a Christian and I used to drink beer. To drink beer is not a problem as long as you are not drunken. However, it became a problem when my daughter started noticing it in the fridge and that was a hindrence to her spiritual growth so I quit drinking and I quit having it in the house. t was what GOD showed me to do and I have not regretted it.

Putting Tattoos is definitely not a sin. Though not a sin there is a virtue called Prudence. Prudence is always choosing what is good, true and beautiful that will bear much fruit in the future and will benefit the people around you.

With my knowledge as regard to placing tattoos, you wouldn't be able to donate blood for certain number of years if you got tattoes. And if ever your mother, brothers, sister, children or loved ones will be in dire need of blood in case of accident you would not be able to donate blood even if you would want to.

So do you think that putting more tattoos will bear much fruit?

In everyhting you choose and do think of what is good, true and beautiful that will bear much fruit for the sake of others.
