You probably aren't getting enough calories in your diet. Although some cravings are normal, they shouldn't be too extreme. I would try spreading out your caloric intake over the course of 6 meals throughout the day (e.g. breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack). All that matters is the total calories you intake, not when you taken them in. By spreading it out like this, your blood glucose levels will remain at more constant levels and you will be less likely to feel the crash cravings that you're probably referring to.
Also, regarding weight lifting. One of the best ways to lose weight is to start a strength training program. Lean muscle increases the amount of calories you burn at a resting rate both long term and immediately following your work out.
As far as the cravings question, if you are getting a decent amount of calories (which it doesn't sound like from your post), here are a couple of tricks to curb cravings:
Piece of sugar free gum with water
Cup of green tea
drink glass of skim milk
drink glass of water by itself
I use the first two at night all the time (when I know I shouldn't be eating, but I get hungry while I'm watching television).

have one day where u can have 1 meal or 1 item that is bad for you
if you do this u will look forward to this day making u be good all week
also by doing this it keeps your metabolism going. If your body is being starved of all the goodies it goes into panic mode making u not loose as much as u could. By giving your body the foods u crave for 1 day a week it will keep your body burning like a furnace.
Dont go overboard n eat 3 pizzas 5 macdonalds and get pissed its more eat ure normal meals but maybe 1 of them be a pizza or a chocolate bar after a meal etc

The best way is not to deny yourself anything, if you crave chocolate then have a snack size bar or just a couple of squares. If you deny it completely then you will just crave it more and then eventually give in and pig out, if you allow yourself just enough to satisfy your craving then it won't do any harm and eventually you'll find you won't crave it anyway any more

I found when you set you machines on one setting and stay there your muscles tend to get used to that stride, try changing things up every 5min go from hard to easy then medium then hard again the muscles dont have time to react so the just work causing you to platue less and build more. Body for Life book explains it best.
