how do i make icons in taskbar smaller?

right click on the blank windows desktop to properties and go to appearances/advanced

You need to alter your screen resolotion.
Click Start > Settings > Control Panel
Click on Display
Select the Settings tab
Increase the screen resolution by clicking on & holding down the mouse on the slider, and moving it to the right.
