Does anyone know if I can do this and apply for my green card? How long do you think it would take?

Unfortunately, it would be very unlikely. An F-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa, meaning you cannot use it to immigrate. When you went to your visa interview, the emphasis was probably on "ties to home" to prove that you were coming back. The whole point of that is because the F-1 is supposed to be temporary. If you want to work on getting a green card, finish your education and apply for an H-1B visa through a company. H-1bs can have "dual intent" (meaning they can be working and applying for a green card), so you're not breaking any rules. The entire green card process can take anywhere from 3 years on up. I think the average at my company is about 5 years for the completed process. It also depends on what country you're from and the backlogs from that country.

Are you allowed to work (more than a few hours, on campus) with a student visa?
I mean, are you going to be saying 'approve my self sponsorship based on the great career I established by working illegally?'
Because I'm not sure that sounds very good.

Unfortunately , no, unless you marry a u.s. citizen
students are sometimes permitted to work no more than 20 hours a week on campus, depending on circumstances

No one wants you here complete your schooling and go home The US goverment is not going to give you a green card so go back to where you came from you are not wanted or welcome here
