I just joined the Army National Guard and I was wondering just what kind of political statements and/or actions I can make. I've always been politically active by getting involved as a volunteer in local campaigns. Can I have political bumper-stickers on my car or lawn-signs during elections? Can I still volunteer for candidates' campaigns, or visit my local representatives while in uniform? Thanks!

It is important not to mix your role as a uniformed guard member with any political views. You may still do the political things, but not in uniform and also not making a statement showing that you are a guard member. Visiting the local representative is OK, as long has you act in a respectable manner.

I am a Guardsman as well. you can do what you please, but you may not participate in political functions while in uniform or portray that the military is endorsing or supporting the candidate/cause.

you may give your opinion as an individual, not as a representative of the Armed Forces.

I tried to find the DoD Directive that was emailed out before the elections a few months ago, but i guess i deleted it. it outlined the guidelines and prohibitions against certain political activites during the elections season.

Yes, but you can't do any of that while in uniform. When you campaign represent yourself as a private citizen not a member of the armed forces.

Yes, you can even vote for whoever you want. But like the person said above, I am not sure if you can do this in uniform. Such as I don't think you can protest the war while in uniform.
