Maybe you and his family should get together and have a talk with him- tell him you are all worried and want him to see a therapist- and then set up plans for him to see one. It doesn't sound good, and it doesn't sound like anything that people are doing right now is getting him to open up about his problems. And, it could just be a depressive disorder with no real cause; just something he needs to manage with medication. you don't want him to end up commiting suicide or something; although I don't know your boyfriend I hear cases all the time of people saying "we don't know what happened; he seemed ok the day before and then we found him...." let the professionals help.

I have lived with depression for most of my life. It's really hard on the people who live with the depressed person.
He needs to WANT to feel better. There is nothing you can do for him until he reaches that point himself. You can offer him options like seeing a counselor or a Dr., exercising or trying meds, but the bottom line is HE has to take the first step.
I'm sorry. It sounds like you are doing a decent job of keeping on with your own life and not letting him drag you down though.

Have you talked to his mother about this? Something traumatising probably happened to him. Or he might just be clinically depressed, I am. There is nothing wrong with being diagnosed with depression it just means there is a chemical imbalance in your mind and with the right medicine it can be helped. You need to ask him to talk to his parents or a councler at school. If he wont you really should, this can get much worse than it already is. When you decide what to do email me, I would love to hear when he gets better:) ~Ala~

Obviously, he needs professional help. That's the only thing you can suggest to him. He sounds really sick. Tell him to go to the hospital if he's THAT thin. If he refuses, then you need to get out of there. Yes, get out. If he doesn't want help, there is nothing you can do. He has no respect for himself, so he has even less for you.

Talk him into going to the doctor. I have been through this too and it is very important to see a health professional about this. It is not something to be embarrassed about, it is a sickness just like a cold or virus. The sooner he talks to somebody the sooner he can get his life back.

He needs to see a doctor ASAP and tell him exactly what is happening. Maybe you could go along to show support and also help inform the doctor of the changes you have seen in your BF. There is help out there and there is no need for him to continue in this way.
Good Luck

Talk him into going to the doctor, does he know why he is depressed, maybe he feels unappreciated, like he hasn't accomplished something, maybe he needs to find something that is interesting to himself and something that he can indulge into.

He needs to see a competent psychiatrist. He can't get better without help.
