three years ago i started suffering what people call panic attacks, but after reading this website and others they dont sound like anyone elses, what happens is i get this flushing sensation through my face that is so so frightening that is scream, i do not have a racing heart or trouble breathing, the other thing that happens is that when i am asleep all of a sudden i wake up and i am screaming it is not the screaming that wakes me up it is a jolt in my head it feels like my whole brain has dropped about three inches it also feels like if i was to look in a mirror half of my face would be missing like it has just been taken off and this is the pain that it feels like,

panic attacks can manifest in many ways, the best thing to do is to sit down and write out everything that you think might be causing you stress. then look for ways to eliminate that stress. sometimes we find ourselfs putting too much pressure on our bodies to just deal with everything we throw at them. if you plot out whatis stressing you and find good ways to eliminate or reduce the stress from these things you will get back to normal.

hang in there you are not alone.

G'evening Victoria,

Here are explanations of what panic attack is; I hope this helps.

A panic attack often begins abruptly, peaks within 10 minutes and lasts about half an hour. But panic attacks have many variations. They may last hours or, on rare occasions, up to a day. You may feel fatigued and worn out after a panic attack subsides.

Signs and symptoms may include:

Rapid heart rate
Sweating
Trembling
Shortness of breath and hyperventilation
Chills
Hot flashes
Nausea
Abdominal cramping
Chest pain
Headache
Dizziness
Faintness
Tightness in your throat
Trouble swallowing
A sense of impending death

Also remember that other health problems, such as an impending heart attack, an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism) or drug withdrawal — can cause similar signs and symptoms.

As you have explained yourself, your description doesn't really fit the ones mentioned above. I don't want to sound really negative, but it might be a really good idea to see your GP and ask him to refer you to a neurologist. As this experience doesn't happen to often, I don't think it's that bad, but it would be best for you to have it looked at even before it gets worse.

Good Luck.

Panic attacks come in so many shapes/forms depending on the individual. Equally though, you know yourself better than anyone so if you really feel something is wrong then go back to your GP.. I can relate to your experience very much but I know mine are caused by stress/anxiety.

Best wishes x

This doesn't sound like panic attacks to me, I get them, I've been getting them for 13 years and take meds for them and this just is not what they feel like, what you describing I mean. I don't know how old you are but I just started my "mentalpause" and that's how I feel now exactly how your saying it! Its the pain your saying you have that has me wondering that you just might need to see a doctor. please do so soon.

I agree with the other posters. You really should get to the doctors. That is what they are there for after all! :)

It sounds to me like neuralgia which is a nerve problem which does commonly occur in the face.

It sounds like something is not right. Go to your GP and get him to refer you to the relevant dept. at the hospital. You need help from a professional.Make that appointment tomorrow because you can't carry on like this. Good luck.
