Because the Busch series is racing in Mexico this weekend, and most cup drivers will be down there for the race.

Because the Cup drivers and their teams deserve a week off. Even though there is not a race the teams and the drivers will still be working. The drivers have to put in so many appearances for their sponsors so this gives the drivers time to do their appearances.
Plus and probably more important...the Busch race is going down to Mexico. So Nascar did not want to schedule two big races back to back in the same week.

The main reason is because of the Busch race being in Mexico City. Many of the cup drivers are in that race. Besides, it gives NASCAR a chance to promote their attempts to reach the sport out beyond the US without having a cup race to worry about promoting.

Look at it like this.
The NFL schedules bye weeks.
So does NASCAR. While the teams may not like having a week off so soon in the season, I'd wager that alot of them are happy for it. It's an extra week at the shop to try and get the plate cars that got trashed at Daytona fixed.
Speaking if which, are they running the CoT at the 'Dega Spring race, or a regular plate car?

It's the way the schedule of races was done. I looked at last years' schedule, and they had the same week off. Easter Sunday will be an off week too. It's good for the drivers to have weekends off--Including this coming Sunday. The Daytona speed-weeks are classified as a season in itself. It can be very very grueling.

They have done this the last several years. I sure the Mexico Busch race has a lot to do with it. According to Daryl Waltrip, that race probably won't last much longer.
I know that not all the drivers are happy about this, because most of them don't drive Busch cars. They would much rather have a break in the middle or late part of the season. Alas.

NASCAR doesn't even know why they aren't having a race on Sunday.

yea, i never understood that, but my guess would be that since the next race is in Vegas, that they get a break. going from the east coast to the west coast, then back east and then back west over a period of 2 weeks would be rough. but who knows, just a guess really

Because whomever does the scheduling doesn't know how to schedule. They should have started the season a week later, and not had a week off the 3rd week into it.
