Ok. I am a devout christian. But, I am being troubled by the existence of the dinosaurs. The Bible does not say of them, but it does say of animals. I dont know if they were included, or not. I don't think that the Bible is wrong, but there was never any mention of dinosaurs. Can someone enlighten me? If you are going to go into an anti-christian rant, just know that I will be praying for you at church.

There will be people tell you that the bible does discuss dinosaurs in the way of beasts or leviathans.

However, the bible does not describe a world where dinosaurs existed. If man and dinosaur lived together, the dinosaurs would have been greatly discussed in the bible. There are dinosaurs that would have had a grand old time hunting humans and eating them. There are dinosaurs that would have made a great food source to humans. There are dinosaurs that could have been domesticated and made wonderful workers. The beasts and leviathans are barely mentioned in the bible. If dinosaurs and man lived at the same time, the bible would probably have entire sections dedicated to dinosaurs.

The lack of description of dinosaurs for food or for labor in the bible points to dinosaurs not existing when the bible was written.

According to Genesis God had Adam name all of the animals that God created. This presents a big problem because humanity did not know of the existence of dinosaurs until the ~1850's; for that fact neither did the authors of Biblical script. The creation time line in Genesis is in complete conflict with what today is common knowledge. He creates light before he creates the objects that produce light, he has no understanding of the photosynthesis process required for plants to survive so he creates the plants before the sun appears, he creates a "firmament" that "suspends" heavenly bodies the thought being that the heavens were a few miles up in the sky; reference God's fear of humanity being able a tower tall enough to reach him. If the Genesis story has any foundation in fact whatsoever, God apparently declined to share the reality of the universe and it's workings with the authors of said text. This is not an attack on your faith, I'm just laying out the account of Genesis against what is already known. What we do know is that the dinosaurs existed; we also know for a fact is that Genesis is dead wrong about a lot of things that are easy to prove...how you use your faith to justify this is up to you.

There are many things that are unexplained, surely, the Bible is not even complete as we see it today. And the further back history goes the less is known, for obvious reasons.

For example: watched a program on PBS about when humans populated the western world. You know the old land bridge theory. Well the "new" theory is that people came from Europe instead. The first theory says that about 13,500 years ago the first humans lived here. NOW, they know it was longer so they need a new theory. And the same will happen with dinosaurs.

Some Christians believe in the "gap theory", that there was a long span of time between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. Or that "The evening and the morning was the first day," was a poetic device used to separate specific events. The Middle Eastern culture was very localized, and it's possible that they simply didn't know about dinosaurs. God certainly does. He created them. The most important verse in the first five chapters of Genesis is 1:1 - "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

quite simply IF according to your beliefs (no matter how illogical and not based on evidence they are), the bible was an account of man's history through the eyes of man, then that is the reason for no dinosaurs in the bible because the bible was intended to be the "history of man".

Personally I think that the fact that dinosaurs, silurian creatures, periods of intense weather fluctuations different oxygen content in the air, etc. (things that happened before man) are not in the bible is a good indicator that the bible is not the word of god, but is the word of man.

You can read that along with your religion however you like. Often christians don't believe the bible as the word of god but do believe it as man interpreting the word of god but written by man.

If the bible were there to say the whole history of the world, it would be a VERY long book. As the existence of the dinosaurs has very little to do with the salvation of our soul, I doubt it was considered important enough to include.
But remember that God sees all things. If the dinosaurs didn't exist, we wouldn't have fossil fuels today. I think God thought importantly enough of our development and learning that he included that in his plan.

The Bible doesn't mention computers and medicine and Monopoly and Wall Street and Masons and the Eagle Nebulous either.

If you can believe the Bible, then I don't think not mentioning dinosaurs should really disturb you that much. I don't mean that in a mean way. I'm just saying that there are so many things you have to interpret or take on faith, that I can't see this one causing too much opposition.

If you take the Bible as a metaphor, you might work it out.

There are some who believe that 'behemoth' and 'leviathan' were 'dinosaurs'. If you do a search using those terms and 'Bible' you should find it. I heard about a 'river of bones' in which many bones were piled on top of one another, that there were different types mingled together, though I haven't checked into it yet. The logic is that dinosaurs wouldn't walk over each other to die, that if they lay where they died the bones wouldn't be so haphazard, and that the bones were carried there by a great flood.

Dinosaurs can't be denied (whether in the bible or not) because we have their bones. The issue is when were they here. Science and carbon dating say it was a lot longer ago than the bible says this world began. The bigger question with dinosaurs is when, not if.
