Well, that depends on what you mean by "unable to lie". Do you mean the objective truth, the really real truth, that which describes actual reality, will just start popping out of people's mouths even if they don't know it?

Or... do you just mean our true feelings?

I think the first one would be most beneficial! If we all HAD to spout out the real facts, religious would become a dying breed. I mean, sooner or later, people would catch onto the phenomenon and realize that no matter how we feel about it, the truth is the truth. I'm sure there would be a few diehard folks out there who refuse to acknowledge the truth (even when they can't help speaking it themselves), but... religion would die very very quickly.

I think the second would be a total disaster. Tact and considerate bluffing are essential to our survival!

Who says that "everyone was instantly struck truthy (no ability to lie)? According to the bible EVERYONE is born a sinner and you become righteous (being right with God) through accepting Jesus Christ as your savior. He is the only way!!! My God will last forever!!!!!

Now, let's define truthy correctly per Stephen Colbert.. From truthiness: it is something a person claims to know intuitively, instinctively, or "from the gut" without regard to evidence, logic, intellectual examination, or actual facts.

A more interesting question is how long civil society would last. While we all say we long for "truth," I seriously doubt we'd want it if we got it in large doses.

It'd be like the scene in the boardroom in "Liar Liar" when Jim Carrey tells all the partners exactly what he thinks of them.

Unfortunately, still too long, as some people really do believe that stuff...
The power of the human mind... it can delude someone into splitting their personality into two coexisting fragments, manifesting images the brain percieves as visual reality (hallucinations) and internally developing a higher meaning via eternal and non-realistic magic. (I feel god... because the idea of nothingness or random chance scare me and a creator is comforting)
