Ok now I need to know why my dog smells so funky, she is bathed 1 a week and sprayed with the well basicly fabreeze for dogs.. Her butt always smells pretty bad, she has what I have started calling the funk going on back there.. I took her to the groomer she said oh it is ok it is natural.. well if this is natural what can I do about it, I am sure she will not run around with a drier sheet tied to her.. She is an inside dog I need to find something... Oh yeah while on it anyone else have one of these dogs? if so please tell me if it is normal for her to be crazy, I think she is right there on the line of being stupid even tho she is smart, she can get into more in 20 minutes then my 5 year old can in a year.. thanks everyone...

impacted anal glands,,, have the groomer, or vet extract them,,, and show you how to do it... also.. try feeding a premium dog food ,, such as Canidae, Timberwolf etc.... ALSO,,,bathing 1x a week is too much.....try daily brushing and stop putting/spraying stuff on the dog....... she shouldn't be stinky

Has the groomer checked her anal glands to see if they need to be expressed? That is usually the cause of funk back there. It could also be her diet but I'm more leaning towards anal glands. That is usually more common in small dogs but not uncommon in large or giant breeds either. As for your second question, how old is she? What kind of training has she had? I have a golden retreiver/saint bernard mix male who is almost 5 years old. He's very calm and laid back (unless he feels a threat that is) and is extremely smart. St. Bernards are a very bright breed but it's not uncommon to find some in every breed that aren't as smart as the "standard". If she's younger, you can probably contribute it to her being young but if she's tearing things up, I would suggest starting formal training if you haven't already. These dogs are so big that an unruly one could be a lot of trouble! I can't imagine if my dog wasn't as well behaved as he is!

Have the vet express the anal glands.

I know this is gross but you may have to clean her butt. That may be why it smells. If thats not it take her to the vet.
