I have a puppy (12 weeks) that I cannot let out during the day at all. I know he can't hold it.
what if I put a pee pee pad at the other end of his crate that I currently have blocked off with a screen? Just during the day when I'm gone.

At night and while he crated when I'm home I can put the divider back and remove the pad. Just until he's about 6 months or whenever I see he hasn't used the pad then completely remove it always?

Also IF that's a good idea how do I teach him to go on the pad? If his blankie he normally sleeps on is on one end and the pad on the other should't he kinda figure it out?

I always put pee pads in my puppy crates if I am going to be gone for over an hour, and I have had good luck with it. I would remove it when he learns to hold it, and he will quickly learn that you should not potty in your crate. Most pee pads are treated to get the puppy to potty on it, and he should not potty on the blankie that he is used to sleeping on. Also, I would put the pee pad toward the back of the crate so he will not walk in it or have to go through it when you let him out.

I always put pee pad or paper by the opening and put bed towards the back...but as the puppy gets older leave less water and food. And when at home work on house training. Soon it will get house trained and you wont need to leave pads in the crate it will be trained and will be able to hold it all day .Dogs really want to be clean and keep their beds clean if allowed to.

I heard that pee pads are a bad idea if you will eventually want your dog to go outside to do his business. Allowing the dog do both(in and out of the house) will only confuse him. The purpose of using a crate to help train him to potty OUTSIDE is because a dog will naturally NOT want to soil his sleeping area, which thru much of the day is his crate. It seems like alot of work, but it is best to stick with one method. . in the long run the pup will be "potty trained" much quicker. Good Luck!

You should start the pee pee pads and also put it in his crate. These pads have a special smell that will prompt them to release on these. Whenever ur puppy releases itself on it award him/her by giving treats or showing you are happy. Slowly he will get the hang of it.
