You're not.
Many women (including myself) have it.
It's easily managed by diet, exercise and medication.
1. Increase the fiber in your diet. Do this slowly, or you'll constipate yourself. Start with high fiber bread, and add high fiber cereal (it won't taste nice) in the morning.
2. Increase your water intake immediately. Drink a minimum of 10 glasses per water a day, in addition to any other drinks you like.
3. Eliminate caffeine from your diet. People with IBS has colons who tend to only respond with stimulation. Remove this and you'll have more control over your BMs.
4. Eat 2-3 pieces of fresh fruit per day. Apples, pear, and other "juicy" fruits are great.
5. If you get constipated, add 5-10 prunes per day to your diet as a snack. If that doesn't help, try a stool softener.
6. EXERCISE! It doesn't have to be much, as little as walking 30 mins per day 4-6 times per week will help get you going. The natural rhythms of your abdominal muscles when you walk will stimulate your bowels to move correctly.
7. Talk to your doctor about Zelnorm. I hate medication but some people need it.

NOT,many people have this, they just don't like to talk about it.Think about it, say a big test is a couple of days away, out of 5 girls(who are nervous about this test)3 will be sick by the end of the day, it is just not cool to talk about it. I would recommend that you be the smart one and go to a support group and talk about this IBS, you may find it will help a lot. I have crohn's disease and know what I'm talking about. If you keep thing that are bothering you bottled up inside, your gonna get sick and miss out on something fun and be in pain too. If you want more information e-mail me and I'll see what I can do to help.
