My cousin and her now-ex-husband got married at the court house. She was five months pregnant at the time and wore a simple off-white prom-type dress, he wore a jacket, slacks and a tie. They exchanged vows and rings and had the "you may now kiss the bride" thing. It's just a much smaller, much more casual, and much cheaper version of a wedding. You can invite some family and friends too if you like. They even had a "reception" at her parents' house with a cake and everything! And since I was the only single girl at the ceremony (being I was only 17 at the time), she just threw the bouquet at me when it was all over. I think it's a very smart move financially to do the courthouse thing and then have a big ceremony. Go for it and good luck!

Well, I did and it depends on your State but in Washington costs only $100. You still have to do this when you get married through the church but you don't have a ceremony unless you have it afterwards. You can bring some people but not over 10 or depending on the court place, you may want to ask!
Good luck!! P.S bring cash I don't think you are allowed to pay any other way or call ahead and make an appointment and make sure you call at least two weeks in advance because they are really busy!!!

You can look up the phone number for your courthouse in the Yellow pages and ask them what you need for marriage license, a birth certificate and a if you are divorced, a divorce decree, some states need a blood test done, others may have other requirements. Then ask when they do weddings and if you need a witness, that's all it takes although there may be a waiting period between when you get the license and when you can get married. I was married at city hall in New York 28 years ago.
Good luck to you.

Google "marriage license in ", or search for a county recorder clerk's office in your city. These are the people who issue your marriage license, and can marry you as well. Call them up and ask what you need to do. Usually, the two of you have to go down there and get a marriage license, then you can set an appointment to be married. It's very simple.

I haven't but a friend of mine has. In PA you need only go down and apply for a marriage license, and after you get that you can go to the courthouse at specific times without an appointment. The best thing for you to do is check with the county courthouse in your area - perhaps they have a website that has this information. Good luck.

If you don't have a lot of $$$ but still want to have a "wedding" outside of a Court House, try calling around to any local restaurants that have a banquet facility. You can decorate it however you want or they might do it for you for a decent price. That way it still looks like a wedding and you can have the Judge come right to you guys = )

When you go to get your marriage license make sure you tell the clerk of the court that you would like to be married by the justice of the peace and they will set up an appointment to do it.

I called ahead and found the information I needed from the person who did my license. They know which judges perform the ceremonies. Once I had the names, I just called their office directly to get their particular. Most judges that I've found only perform the civil ceremonies on certain days and at certain times. Just be sure that when you go you have everything you need.

Yep sure have. When you get your marriage license ask if a judge is available to marry you. Do not go on a Fri. afternoon, judges like to go home early on Fridays. My wife and I had to drive to three different counties to find a judge on a Fri.:)
It only cost $20 plus the marriage license.

You just go down to the courthouse and get your marriage license and stuff, then all you need to go is find an attorney's office ( justice of peace ) I think, they can get in done in no time. Hint : not the most romantic way though, did not help my marriage and expectations.
