well you could consider a chihuahua, pomeranian, or a papillon.
the toy breeds tend to be snappy, so make sure you train them well and you get from a reputable breeder. Toy breeds tend to be more expensive as well. Dogs need to go out to the bathroom more than once every single day.. but if you mean just to go for a walk most dogs will be more than happy to accompany you.
good luck

Get a stuffed animal since all you really seem to want is an accessory. Dogs are living beings. They require more than riding in your purse making you look good. If you actually want a companion, I suggest something at least in the 20 pound range. Small dogs are awful with children. The kids are likely to be too rough and the dogs are likely to bite in response. It isn't anyone's fault, that is just the nature of children and small dogs. The only cheap dog is one you get at the pound. A responsibly purebreed dog is at least $900. Since smaller ones are in demand I would expect to pay more like $1500. Even one from the pound is going to cost a couple hundred dollars when you consider the adoption fee, supplies you'll need to buy, and the initial vet bill. One last note, a dog should never be washed more than once a month at the maximum unless he has gotten exceptionally dirty. Dogs are not people. They do not need a bath every day or even every week and giving them one that frequently is harmful to their skin and coat. If you really want a dog go to www.akc.org and do some research before your accessory ends up at the pound.

I have a cairn terrier and it is not a real known breed but they are the best dogs! They are smart and easy to train. They also are very loyal and they live for kids. all of the ones we have had let the kids do just about anything to them and they are just like what ever. If you dont know what a cairn terrier is it is like toto from the wizard of oz. and everyone that keeps saying get a purse dog or something like that is wrong all toy breeds are yappers so get a cairn or a terrier and i will tell you now you will be very happy!

Your local animal shelter should have a small dog waiting for a good home. More often than people think, they do get pure bred dogs in, if you just have to have a pure bred. However, you usually run into less health problems in mixed breeds and they usually live longer than pure breds. And your basic mutt is usually very smart!
Animals rescued from death row have an inner sense and some how they KNOW you rescued them, therefore, they are usually the most loyal and appreciative.

a furby? go to toys r us?
ok seriously, you want a toy dog?
toy dogs CAN be fairly highly strung, so when getting your puppy you will have to TRAIN it. no training and you get a misbehaving puppy that gets away with murder, and could even be nippy towards kids. it may not be a big dog, but toy dog nips can still hurt!
it will need walks DAILY, where else is it meant to do it's business? in your purse? hehe. and if you find a dog with longer hair, such as poms and long haired chihuahua types, they will also need brushing more regularly. (i have a long haired cat that DEMANDS to be brushed at least 3 times a day hehe)
as for cheap, if you want a good quality dog, you'll have to pay for it, you can try a breed rescue though, look for toy breed rescues in your area. of course with rescues you won't know their background so depending on age they may or may not be ok with children running around them wanting to play.
do you have any specific toy breeds you prefer? chihuahua? pom? miniture dachshund?

EVERY dog needs to be walked daily a couple times a day! It is not fair to the dog to not give it proper excercise. If that is too much for you, consider a cat.
"purse" dogs are in high demand and you will be looking at about $1000 - $1500 to purchase one.

If you do some research you should be able to narrow it down to a few breeds, then ask folks their opinions and experiences with those particular breeds. See link below to get you started)
Also, don't forget to check out your local shelter and rescue groups!
