In regard to the Marine Ranger's comment, I was referring to the Recon Rangers, which I believe may now be called Marine Recon.

The USAF has several special units and positions.
The have Air Commando Squadrons which fly insertion helocopters, fly AC-130 gun ships and other aircraft.
They also have Special Tactics Units made up of Para-Rescue, Combat Controlers and Combat Weathermen.
They have Search and Rescue units.
And they provide Army and Navy units with Combat Controlers to call in air strikes.
The Marines have Force Recon and Two Marine Special Operations Battalions (as of 2006)

Yes, designed after the British SAOS, the US AF has its own special forces unit. Its name changes frequently to keep the enemy unaware of what and where it might be based at. SAC was the bomber wing of the special unit due to the nuclear munitions they carried or launched from the missile units. You might enlist in the USAF if you have a college degree, and then you can inquire about joining up. If you have it in you. The Navy Seals wash out enrollees by the dozens. Likewise the USAF. It takes only college graduates for most enlistees in the regular forces. So how tough do you think it will be for the AF Spec For?
ParaRescue is a different unit based upon rescue missions only. Rangers, Green Beria's, Seals, etc., are trained and equipped for war battles, not civilian work.

The SAS stands for 'specific air provider', no longer 'specific armed amenities'. And the specific AIR provider belong to the army. there is not any longer possibly any specific forces in the RAF. the human beings who 'get to fly the latest jets' are called pilots.
