Well, I don't go to church, temple, synagogue, etc.
BUT, I have only rarely been in these new churches. I PREFER (if I HAVE to go into a church for some reason - funeral or wedding or something) to be in a church that has beauty. Nothing against these Cavalry Church buildings, but they're not very inspiring. Whereas my grandparents attend a Roman Catholic church in an old German community, and there is such beauty that it does not matter that I don't believe what they believe, I can still attend and feel inspired by the beauty they have created. This just doesn't do it for me if the outside looks like a manufactured metal box.

Well it all depends on the holy spirit that Jesus christ has working in that church. If the spirit of jesus christ isn't there then you will not be drawn to that church. But if the holy spirit is in that church you do not need past knowledge about the church, you only need go in and find out for yourself if you liked being there and listening to Gods message for that particular day. God himself will draw you in, through the power of his holy spirit. You are going to want to go back every sunday if you enjoyed the service. It could be the singing of the choir or the prophesy of the people. Meaning that the Lord God almighty ordains or gives one the authority to tell you one on one Gods message for you in particular. Many things can happen. You will never know something good if you don't make the effort to want to go. That's the only way you will know and that's only if you go. Just like a girl, that you might be interested in. If the girl looks atractive on the outside and she has a very ugly personality you won't date that girl, but if that girl isn't as attractive on the outside, when you get the chance to know that girl you would surely find the comfortablity that you were searching for. I hope I answered your questions.
God bless my dear

Word of mouth - people talking about it. I would want to know if the Holy Spirit was working at that church and if I felt His presence and I knew enough of the people and I was dissatisfied with my church or if I was not attending one, I would I would probably either start attending that one or move my membership there and start attending services.

You would need to be willing to explore business marketing techniques, and many churches are not willing to do that. Youth groups are an advantage that most business do not have, but car washes and bake sales can be supplemented with pamphlets and perhaps a web site.
