I have 2 black labs. One has just turned 1, the other is 13 weeks. The older one always stayed in our bed. The younger one we put in a crate at night and she barked non-stop (with a barkcollar on!)
So my husband thought she's be happier with us in bed too. Naturally enough she loves it. Is this healthy?
We're a young couple with 2 dogs in our bed, but they're used to it now and don't want to stay anywhere else. Also, I get up every night at 3am to let her out. I've tried feeding her at 5pm, 8pm,10pm.....but still she wants to get up at all hours and I have to get up and take her. I like my sleep! Please advise.

I have a 13 month old chocolate lab that used to sleep on our bed. It took 2 nights but all I did was buy him a little pillow bed and he would whine next to our bed but being stern I'd get out of bed and say NO and take him to the pillow bed. After the 2 horrible nights of sleep, now he goes right to his bed and then once we get up in the morning he is allowed up on our bed :).

The bathroom issue can be taken care of by not giving them access to water during the night and to put them outside to go to the bathroom right before going to bed.

A bark collar on a 13 week old?!! Are you out of your mind? Puppies cry at first when they are in their crates, it is something you just have to put up with and ignore until they realise it does not work. Dogs don't waste their time repeating a behaviour that has no reward. Confining one and not the other makes no sense either. Keep them contained in a safe area, or crate the two of them with the crates in the same room as you. Limit the puppy's water and food intake after about 8pm. She is too small to hold it through the night at this age.

put them BOTH in SEPERATE crates at night(could be side by side). the other dog isn't stupid, he knows that the other dog is with you and he wants the same. Make sure that the crates are very warm and comfy and roomy. Stop all food and water at 6pm. At around 10or 11pm let the dogs out for 20minutes to uses the restroom. lock them up. IGNORE!!! even if they bark, don't say anything just IGNORE. then right in the moring let them out to use the bathroom agian...after a while they'll get it....for the first few week you migh want to put puppy pads under the younger dogs blanket incase he has an accident.

sleeping with two dogs isn't unhealthy it's just a bit troublesome at times.
-Like having to clean the sheets more often becuase they stink of dog or having an audience when you want to have sex.(not to mention pushing them out to do it)

The bathroom break has become a routine and now the dog is functioning on it. 13 wks is still young so as he/she gets older it will have more control over its bladder. If the problem is you don't want 2 dogs sleeping with you then teach her to sleep on the floor next to you or build something that is the same height as the bed so she can see you that may tone her down a bit.

It is ok to have your dogs in your bed but when your bed gets tto small for all of you you may need a bigger one. Stop feeding your puppy after a specific time like I stop feeding my 12 weeks old puppy after 7 pm food gets put up. And she sleeps all night. Good luck. Oh Yeah. If you don't want to purchase a bigger bed you better start putting beds for your dogs on the floor next to your bed now.

Having your dog sleep in your bed means your dog has climbed up the ladder of the picking order.
Feed her after your dinner. Then take her for a long walk because she has lot of energy
and get a dog mat and a mini stretch bed for her to sleep on
If you still have problems she a dog whisper ect

I made the same mistake with my dogs. They are older now. But they slept with us, then we bought a new house and furniture and now they aren't allowed on the furniture and they just think they are so abused. But in reality they are just fine. You need to be consistent and make them stay down, after a few weeks or so they will be okay. You can get them pet beds or buy them their own blankets. That's what we did and they adjusted after about a month or so.♥ Most important you need to be consistant or they will get confused.♥

I had the same problem with my Yorkies. I would put them in the kitchen at night and put a baby gate up to keep them in. The two year old would just jump right out and come and whine outside my bedroom door while the 12 week old would whine downstairs. Now I crate the 2 year old in the kitchen to keep her in and the baby is happy because he has company.
