I am an American and I have converted to being a Muslim. Right now I'm studying abroad in Germany so the only people who know are my mom, dad, a cousin, and my friends. My dad hasn't responded yet, but I suspect because he just had shoulder surgery. However, my mom was really really upset. She thought I was turning my back to God and that I was disrespecting the soldiers that are in Iraq. She said a lot more, but now she respects my decision and she loves me.
The effects of Islam have been good. I feel blessed that I came to the path of Islam.

I havent heard anything negative from my friends, but then again I am not a push over, so I think everyone knows that there are boundaries with me. I have heard a little bit of negativity from a couple of cousins, but then again, I find it funny that people who are not very versed in their own religion would try to convince me that I'm wrong. My close family members have all respected it and supported me. My conversion wasnt a problem, but I am dissapointed over and over by ignorance that I have encountered by strangers. Islam is not this big mysterious secret, its a religion that I have chosen, and learning about it never stops. Nor should it. Everyday we live should be a learning experience.

Dave Chappelle, the comedian, converted to Islam after his brother converted in 1998. Afeni Shakur(Tupac Shakur's Mom) converted to Islam after marrying her second husband that was Muslim. Micheal Jackson converted to Islam a couple of years ago after his brother converted.

Islam may not be the largest religion, but it is the fastest growing religion in the world!

I reverted to Islam in 1989. My family was shocked at first, until they realized I hadn't grown horns and a tail! Personally, I found Sufism to be a perfect fit, spiritually, for me. It is open and welcoming, and also doesn't allow a person to try and cause others to convert! I have found that when I meet a brother or sister Muslim, I am immediately made to feel welcome, no matter where I am.

I actually converted to Islam about a month ago and I read about it first. It's really not that hard to adjust. The only major things are to stop eating pork and stop drinking alcohol (not a big problem on either one for me as I usually did neither). Friends and family have known me since before I converted and know me for who I am, not what religion I practice.

As-salaamu alaykum

I'm an American and reverted to Islam October 2nd, 2006. I lost touch with my friends in high school. My family thinks I'm a terrorist and doesn't bother to come visit me even though I have invited them like twice. I just ignore all the rude commets I get from people.

If you convert to Islam i will tell you that people wont treat you with your religion they just know who you are and they treat you who you are!

And remember if you convert to Islam God will help you and he is with you wherever you go!!!!!!!!!!

i am not muslim because i born muslim. i went thru an exprience with God and he showed me the truth. before my faith was about guessing, "i think", maybe, i am not sure. but now i know Islam is truely the religion from God just like how u see the sun appears up on the sky (long story).

at first at work, i didn't pray five times a day, so i used to pray in my car, but found it hard getting out of my job to pray on my car, so i tried to do it at break room, but still co-workers come back and forth in break room. so i took my decision and decide to pray infront of them and i did, they were first curious about my changes and later they got used to it especially that they noticed that my forgiviness become greater than before, my heart become begger, become more patient, and more generous compare to the past. they like me of who i am at work.
