Huh? What was said is that some Taliban guy said it was aimed at Cheney, but that it was detonated at an entrance gate far away from the VP.
Not sure where or how you managed to distort this into that he was near blown up, but that was not reported anywhere that I saw.

The newscast here was that he was on a military installation in
a building away from the blast. The bomb was at the main gate,
which is close enough to one of the muck-a-mucks to be considered
too close.
