disadvantage: speed kills
advantage: you get there faster.

seriously though, speeding lowers gas mileage, puts a lot of wear on the engine, makes the car more difficult to handle, and can lead to tickets. but every once in a while it is useful to help clean some of the crap out of an engine.

The obvious advantage is that you get places sooner. The disadvantages are that is illegal, and after a certain speed (varies for different cars) the amount of fuel burnt is disproportionate to the amount of distance covered, thus making it economically unattractive

It depends on how much, where and when.

5 over most places is what is safe to keep up with traffic (if you are slowing everyone else down and they are going around you, it is YOU that is driving dangerously)

Driving fast on a straight, empty road in good conditions is basically harmless (unless it is in an area where there are cops patrolling it -- tickets are NOT worth what they cost you...directly or in insurance increases). The other catch is if someone else is being stupid (stoped in the middle of the road), and you hit them while speeding...the end of their life could be the end of yours ($20M lawsuit + time in prison). But if they were being stupid and you weren't speeding, it's not considered criminal negligence....and your liability decreases greatly.

Speeding over the speed limit shows your ignorance. The speed limits are established so that most people can drive and there many people that has died to evolve these limits. Speed will kill.
