Well I would do your research. And be honest with yourself. do you have the time to put into a small dog? Thye like constant company, cant be left alone too long ( unless PROPERLY crated) and all dogs have different health issues. like the ones with pushed in snouts( pekenesse, pug) other have eye isues and still otheres have heart or diabetes issues. I have dobermans but i do know a few things about most dogs, so I'd advise checking into those things first. Also Please DO NOT buy from a Pet store. this just encourages the puppy mills and they often have health problems... Once you figure out what breed you are comfotrable with type tht breed and rescue into your area search engine and you should be able to find a great rescue that way...( I did and I now not only have my dobey but I have a senoir foster and I volunteer witthe rescue). Yahoo has a breed reccommender that you can try too. My fave small dogs are the chinese crested and the yorkie...But with my 2 big dogs, 2 cats a rat and a fish, My fiancee drew the line ...LOL Again good luck in your quest and do your research it will benefit both of you...

would continue to do a lot of research so you can narrow it down to a few choices. Smaller dogs tend to be nippy. I have a jack russell which I love but you really have to be prepared to have one. They age well but will wear you out more than anything. Jack russells like to cuddle but only when they are exhausted and it takes hours and hours of playtime each day to get them tired. Besides jrt, I am not a big fan of small dogs. I had a yorkie when I was younger and it was definitely nippy especially around children because it wanted to be the dominant one. Pugs and chihuahas are also very popular lately. The king charles cavelier can be really cute and seem like sweet dogs.

if any one has allergies then you should get a Yorkie or Poodle. I have a Yorkie and a Toy Pomeranian. Any terriers can get yappy or aggressive to other dogs or strangers. I had mine well socalized as a pup and is the friendliest Terrier to all. A Pom, maltese, papillon ect are more a suck/ high matenance dogs as well as some Shih tzu all though Shih tzu can get nasty. Do not get a Jack russel unless you have alot of time to spend training. Most are destructive and hyper as well as aggresive to other animals.

Sounds like you'd like a yorkie but do some research first. Don't just go out and buy/adopt a dog you don't know anything about. I also think you should adopt instead of buy. Go to your local shelter and see what they have for little dogs. Shelters aren't just for mixes and mutts. You can get a nice purebred at a shelter. But whatever you do please do not buy from a puppy mill. They are often overpriced, and rarely have good health. Not only that, but these puppies suffer so much in puppy mills. :(
Aight, that's it.

My parents LOVE their Havennese dogs. They don't shed, they aren't yippy, but they're small. Well, they do reach 15 pounds or so. AWESOME DOGS!!!
Also, consider rescued dogs. Make sure you read up on how to raise a puppy/dog BEFORE you bring one home!!! PLEASE!
Don't be just another owner who gives up on their unruly puppy and turns the poor animal in to the pound.

I think a shih tzu would be the best because i have one and she is a good dog and loves to cuddle but can play rough. they can weigh ten punds or less. Good luck finding the right dog.

Personally, I prefer Miniature Poodles. They are about ten pounds so they are easy to carry.

Jack Russel Terrier pretty much fits all of those.
