I am the world's biggest wuss and I'm 12 weeks pregnant (yeah, laugh it up!). I am petrified of needles. To be honest, I'm not really worried about the labor pains too much (but I am worried, lol), I'm more worried about the epidural needle, the I V and the stitches afterwards. I really think I will pass out every time I have to move (because of pain down there). I really hope the labor pains make me more tolerable of pain. What do you think?

Okay so me too! With my first baby I went in and tried to make it with out an epidural so i didn't need the needle but after a while I thought to my self "A needle can't be worse than this" and I was right. When you are in labor nothing is worse than those pains, but after I got the epidural I didn't feel a thing even then stiches. To be honest I didn't even know they were doing them because I was trying so hard to see my baby while they cleaned him up. Also you don't see the needle so that helps too. But you will be just as tolerable mayber a LITTLE better after you have your baby. Sorry it isn't better news and you won't be super woman.

If you're afraid of pain, look for the least painful way to have a baby. You don't want needles and stitches, right? Check out the Bradley method of natural childbirth. Find a birth center and a good midwife. I had four kids with no pain medication and I only needed stitches the first time and that was because of fetal distress. I wasn't even sore after the last one. I have had hunger pains before that were worse than labor. The Bradley method uses total relaxation to prevent the uterus from cramping, so the only pain is the cervix stretching, until crowning that is. Labor feels nothing like menstrual cramps. It feels similar to the pain in your jaw when you are at the dentist and you have to hold your mouth open wide for a long time. It is a dull ache that comes and goes. However, if you are tense, then your uterus will cramp and it will be 10 times worse.
I never had an IV with my labors either.

You won't see the needle, they put an epidural in your back. And, by the time you go through the ever-increasing pain of labor, you won't even flinch over the thought of them giving you one! It'll be instantaneous relief! I've had 3 kids, 19 weeks pregnant with #4...2 out of my 4 were natural. Ouch! So yeah, bring on the needle! By the way, you may or may not need stitches afterward. Not every woman needs to be cut, and not every woman tears. Here is a fun fact for you: Childbirth hurts MORE than a gunshot wound. True published fact. So girl, i say "needle be damned!" :) LOL!

I know exactly how you feel. I was also terrified of needles (still refuse the flu shot every year), but by the time you are ready to have the baby you will have been poked at so many times you will get used to it. As for the epidural, if you trully are needing it, the stick from the needle will be the last pain you are worried about. My contractions were so hard with my second son I didn't even feel the needle from the epidural because I was so focused on just breathing. If you have to have an episiotomy that is probably the easist part, it's just sore.

Well, you aren't the biggest wuss...that would be me LOL Seriously though, by the time labor rolls alone you won't care what they stick you with. Needles hurt, but if you get your epidural AFTER you hit hard labor it doesn't hurt nearly as much. It's like a spider bite but if you get it while you are in the first stages for some reason they hurt like crazy. You'll do fine. God made us to handle this sort of thing. I remember with my first (4 babies ago) I was terrified of thinking about a baby coming out of me but when it was all over it was actually rather amazing and it didn't hurt all that bad...wasn't like oh fun but wasn't nearly as bad as ole mom told me it was when I was born LOL BTW Congrats!

No it won't make you more tolerant of pain, sorry!
I've had four babies (and 1 miscarriage) and when you stand on one of the kids mega bloks it's WORSE THAN CHILDBIRTH AAAAAH!
Seriously, you won't pass out (you will WISH you could) but you may not need all those needles and anyway, you'll be concentrating on your contractions and breathing to worry about other stuff...
I didn't need stitches with any of my children so maybe you won't either..
I'd have another baby tomorrow if I could, even though I know EXACTLY what's coming!!

P.S I'm the world's biggest wimp, and if I can do it, ANYONE can!!
Good luck!
