All I could find to rent for my wedding this summer are white metal folding chairs with white seats. I've not seen the chairs, I don't know if I will before the wedding since I'm renting them from out of town. I'm buying some 1.5" wide ribbon and plan on just wrapping the top of each chair just once and then attaching some decoration on the back where the ends of the ribbon will meet. The ribbon is white, pink and green stripes. Any ideas on how much ribbon per chair would be needed, I'm guessing for an average size folding chair, and what to put for the decoration on the back? Links would be helpful too! Oh and it will be an outdoor wedding next to a waterfall. Thanks!

www.pewcones.com -- they are satin and pearl cones that hang on chair or pews and you fill with flowers- just gorgeous! I have been to a few weddings with these and so many of the guests were talking about them- just very beautiful.

I would recommend you use tulle instead of ribbon. Tulle is much cheaper by the bolt than ribbon. And you can add some silk flowers as accent to the bows. Most standard sashes that comes with chair covers are 6" or 8" wide by 108" long, so you can use this as a guide for making your own sashes with ribbon or tulle. You can also rent sashes for chairs for about $1.00 a sash depending on your area (so you might want to look into that as well). Here's a link of a company who has a picture of white folding chairs with a sash (toward the bottom of the page)

Hope this helps...

One thing I had seen that was really very pretty was plaques (instead of place cards) for each guest. Each one was decorated on the edge with moss and the guests name was written in caligraphy in the middle. They were then tied to the back of each chair with ribbon. I would say each one was about 8" x 5" I would use about 2 yards per chair. Looks better to have more then not enough. Good luck

My vote is to use tulle too, I think it would be more workable not to mention more cost efficient in the long run. Also, are you planning on decorating EVERY chair or maybe just the ones on the back row or just the outside ones next to the aisle? That might would cut down on the cost also if you'd consider that. Try this link, I found alot of useful ideas and information here,

Good luck and I know it will be beautiful whatever you choose!

Can you return the ribbon? Honestly, this is something that none of your guests are going to notice, and so it's a waste of your time to tie all these ribbons to the chairs, when the chairs will look perfectly fine as they are.

If you really want, you can do slip covers on the chairs. They can be found with table covers if you are buying those at any linens vendors. Depending on where you are located, you can find vendors in your area at perfectweddingguide.com and scroll all the way to the bottom. You'll see an option called chair covers/ linens. If you register for the site (it is free) you'll get ones specifically in your area. I love this site!

Do you want to wrap the chair or do you just want to wire a bow to it?
A 72" strip of netting makes a twelve inch wide, 4 loop (loopy) bow with a 21" tail and a 27" tail.

I agree - why waste your time! Ribbon is expensive, and can you imagine how time consuming that is actually going to be??
