I go through weird mood swings like sometimes I'll be happy during the day, then at night I get depressed and can't fall asleep because I feel really anxious and sad. Then when I wake up in the morning it's like I'm a different person and I'm optimistic and happy again and kind of in disbelief that I could have been so depressed before and don't understand why I was so sad. Is there anyone out there who has bipolar or knows some who does who can tell me if this is how you feel?

No this is not bi polar ( i have 3 family members with it so I know)
Bi polar your happiness is much more extreme whichis why it is called Mania you are like jumping off the walls and dont' sleep at all and are very hyper it lasts about a week depressionthen sets in and it is overwhelming suicidal depression.........
it sems more like you have extreme seasonal affective disorder which is when a lack of light (ie night time) makes you depressed.... it is mnormal for people to be anxious at night becuase when you start to fall asleep your brain naturally osrts through everything you have to do.. just ignore it but if tis really abd see a therapist

Bipolar mood episodes (mania or depression) last for weeks or months. Bipolar people do not switch back and forth hourly or daily. The specific criteria for diagnosing Bipolar includes symptoms that last at least a week.

This sounds like normal moods. As others have said, Bipolar is EXTREME. Once during a manic episode, I was standing on a bridge yelling that I had the key to the world. And I have been so depressed that I could not get out of bed for days.

Be glad you don't have it.

It depends on the severity of the mood swings. I'm not a professional, but from what know, people with bipolar disorder have severely dramatic mood swings, and each phase usually lasts several days, sometimes weeks. when depressed, they shut down; when manic, they are irresponsible and impulsive. this doesn't sound like you. But like I said, I'm not a professional. only a prpofessional could tell you for certain.

Bipolar can also be "rapid cycling". This is a recent discovery, and more known to occur in children. Sounds sorta like bipolar to me - but a good psych eval would be useful. Whatever name they want to call it, there are lots of useful med's to level out huge mood swings.

It does not sound like bipolar. Try getting a referral for a counsellor to talk about your depression please. Good luck
