9.5 weeks is not old enough to be even close to reliable on potty training. Give her some leeway. She's also a toy breed - a group that generally is VERY difficult to potty train, if they *ever* get it.

Did the breeder go over any of this with you? A good breeder will discuss potty training techinques with you before you leave. A good breeder will also be available when you are having problems.

Potty training questions are one of the most common questions here in the pet section. I recommend doing a search for it (the search box is near the top of the page) and using whatever seems to apply to your situation.

I find that one of the best things to do is to never let the pup alone. Put a leash and collar on it and attach it to your belt. If you see the dog start to squat, bring her to the paper or outside. And, get some good carpet cleaner (simple solution is my personal fav).

Remember, never yell at her, hit her, smack her, rub her nose in waster, scream at her, 'pop' her in the nose, etc. This will teach her to fear you, not the action.

Good luck to you.

But she's only a baby! When training my shih tzu female I used to put newspaper over plastic bin bags and each time she woke from sleep I would place her on the paper, praising her and saying "wee wee". Eventually she got the hang of going on the paper and I'd give her a bit of kibble as a reward. The paper got smaller and smaller, and when the weather was warm enough for her to go out in the garden, I'd put her out there to do anything. She was housetrained at 4 months and she did really well as she had to go through 3 rooms to reach the back door. Patience and perseverence is what you need - and praise the puppy, talking to her all the time.

Just be consistant with her she'll get the hang of it. She's a puppy. It took you a while to learn to use the toilet. When she potties where you don't want her to go pick her up and put her on the paper and if she messes(poops) put this on the paper with her. Also if she pees you can use paper to clean it with andkeep it with some clean paper. this way she will smell it. Always leave a little dirty paper so her scent is on it. Good Luck

The 2 Chinese crested that I have known were never house trained. Both people ended up using diapers on them I have no idea why, but I thing I'd get a dog trainer. Sorry. I hope you have better luck.

The small breeds are so hard to potty train!

Be consistant with her, and anytime you catch her not on the paper, place her on the paper quickly. With how small and young she is, be tolerant, and know that she'll have to pee about once per hour.

Have her in a crate by your bed at night, to prevent night time accidents.

She is extremely young, I think she is doing very well if she gets the paper some of the time. Sometimes she won't even realise she needs to go till it's too late. Just be patient with her and use positive reinforcement (praise) when she gets it right.

Crate training is the easiest and best way. It could take a few months though until she can control her bladder. She is still way too young to be able to understand.
