#1 Rule: DO NOT CALL HIM!!!!! (or text or anything). Nothing sends a stronger "i'm moving on" message. Even if you agreed to be friends, take some time apart. Take a couple of months to just forget about him and move on.

Anyway I would say the rules are simple
1. Return all property undamaged if break up amicable.
If not amicable break all his sh!t and mail it to him in tiny little pieces.
2. No "just friends" hookups after breakups, at least wait a few months/weeks/days/hours whatever...
3. If I broke up with you, there's a reason. Don't call me, don't beg, I'll call you when I feel you should see me.
Those are my rules, they are subject to change depending on the guy and the next guy in line....

it depends on the reason for the break up if you both agreed to end the relationship then you can stay friends if you both are comfortable with it. but the number one rule is don't have sex with your ex unless you plan on getting back together.
