There are no symptoms of birthmarks. They simply are colored marks on the skin. One kind of birthmark can look very different from another kind of birthmark. Birthmarks can:

Be flat or raised.
Have regular or irregular borders.
Be many different colors, including brown, tan, black, pale blue, pink, red, or purple.
Be smooth or lumpy.
Be thin lines of color or solid color.
Be only on the surface of the skin or extend into the tissues under the skin.
Grow quickly, remain the same size, shrink, or disappear over time.
All birthmarks need to be checked by a health professional. Most do not need treatment. Certain changes in a birthmark or certain types of birthmarks may need to be watched closely and/or treated. See a health professional if a birthmark:

Bleeds.
Develops an open sore (ulcer).
Becomes infected.
Interferes with normal functioning or vision.
Grows suddenly or becomes painful.

my daughter was born with two strawberry marks, one on her left thigh the other on the back of her neck. when she was two weeks old another appeared on her chest. i took her to the docs and he says its strawberry nervousa, a form of birthmark. (its ment to be where the stork pecked her) i wasnt worried as my niece had the same on her foot when she was born an it was gone when she turned two, but needed an explanation. strawberry nervousa is the blood vessels joining abnormally and forming a harmless lump looking like a strawberry. my daughter has just turned two and the one on her thigh has gone but the other two remain, the doc says they will be gone by the time shes five. im not worried tho as we know shes fit n healthy and love her jammie dollops as much as we love her.xx

birthmarks are deformities of the skin that happen when you are still being developed. and are visible when you are born, and usually your entire life.
