Are you having favors? If you are, ask the reception hall to put a colored napkin in the middle of each table. Get a small glass votive holder and light the candle. Put the favors around the candle in the middle.
Another idea is to get a cheap vase which you get get at the dollar store, and put an arrangement of tulips in it that match your colors. Tulips are a very nice flower and are very inexpensive. Congratulations

Sure, go with the large votive candles (which ever color you want, but I'd choose ivory and decorate around them), place them on square or round mirrors, put hurricanes over them and then you can add anything around them that you want, pine cones, ice crystal branches, flowers, rose petals...the possibilities are endless (but this is also a common centerpiece). If you want to be creative you could use the fishbowls with water (most people put floating tea candles in them) but surprise everyone by putting beta fish in them (the fun thing about betas is they come in an assortment of colors and you can use them to blend in the decor and they are fairly inexpensive). I saw this done for my friend's wedding and it was a big hit. People talked about the fish all night and the kids loved it and at the end of the day she drew a table raffle and the winner got to take the bowl and fish home. This is fun for a reception that has children and is less formal (I wouldn't do this at the Plaza or the Ritz Carlton!). At anyrate, those are my ideas.

Think about this: Hurricane vases with pillar candles placed in them and rose petals sprinkled inside of the vase around the candle. The vase placed on top of a square or round centerpiece mirror. Around the vase and mirror, place 2-4 votive candles and sprinkle a few more rose petals or in place of the rose petals use the plastic crystal jewels. And voila...simple, inexpensive, and very elegant.
If you live near a Hobby Lobby, check the weekly sales ad for the hurricane vases and mirrors. If you catch them on sale, you can spend no more than $3.00 for each.
Hope this idea is a contender.

We bought inexpensive glass bowls from the dollar store, and gathered some river rock. We also got some pretty fake cattails from the dollar store. The day of the wedding we bought goldfish and put them in the bowls with the cattails tied on with pretty ribbons, it was really nice and pretty. But, my wedding was very natural (no flowers, all cattails and reeds) so that may not suit everyone. I do think the dollar stores have great solutions for things like tht, though, because you can get all kinds of containers, candles, and decorative items like that.

I'm not sure how many bridesmaids or tables you have, but I am going to have empty vases on every other table and have my bridesmaids go into the reception and drop their bouquets in them. Then on the other tables, I am going to have bigger arrangements. That way you are paying for half as many flower centerpieces.

Use empty wine bottles (labels removed) and stick a candle stick in it.Wrap some natural twine around the neck of the bottle. Use candle olors that coordinater with you wedding colors. Light them a little early and let them melt down aways to look really romantic. You can dress up the table under and around them with some grape vines and green leaves.

I saw large clear bowls with those colored glass gems placed in the bottom filled about half way with water with beautiful daisies floating inside at a wedding reception. It was gorgeous. They also had little votive candles and rose petals around the bowls. I loved it.

depends on your theme, colors, etc, but here are some ideas I've seen in the past that were beautiful..
hit the local dollar store for pillar candles of different heights, a few rolls of wide ribbon in your colors, and some bags of colored glass pebbles. Lay the ribbon out the length of your table (works for round or rectangle), and arrange the candles in a formation at the center of the round, or at regular intervals on a rectangle, and scatter the pebbles in between.
look for inexpensive glass bowls, and (if it works with your colors), fill them with water and small , preferably seasonal fruit of your choice--I've seen this done well on separate occasions with a variety of cherries, peaches and plums, and a variety of citrus fruits (depending on the size of the bowl and the fruit).
If it's coming up soon, tall branches of pussy willow or cherry blossoms (providing you know someone who doesn't mind you clipping their trees) can be very effective and economical, as well as elegant, and complimentary to many colors and themes.
Have fun, enjoy, and CONGRATULATIONS!
