I recently purchased a Samsung DVD/VHS Player/Recorder. I own a bunch of VHS movies and I want to transfer them all to DVD. The first one recorded without a problem. The second VHS tape I tried to record on DVD wouldn't allow it and displayed a copy protection message. Is there anyway to get around this? If not what % of VHS movies have this type of copy protection. Do a lot of movies have it? Is this thing worthless?

Thanks!

Hmmm. Since you have a DVD/VHS combo unit I'd say your chances are slim that you would be able to do this. If the DVD and VHS were separate then I'd suggest trying a "macrovision decoder" between the VHS tape and DVD recorder.

Well, it's not worthless but most wont copy those tapes with copywrite protection.

It's a real ripoff because a lot of the movies and tv shows havent been and may not ever be released on dvd and meanwhile you are stuck with deteriorating video tapes that probably wont even play in a few more years.

There are some devices that record direct from video to a pc disc that then allows you to burn the dvd from your computer.
They sell for around $40. That's about all I can suggest.

A lot of movies have it. YOu might try running a VHS recorder into the "in jacks" on a TV and the DVD recorder to the "OUT" jacks on the system; sometimes it'll ignore what's been done to the tape.

FYI< the best thing to do is just scrap the tapes and buy DVD's.

VHS shouldnt have any copy protection except for the little tab found on the front of the video casette...if it is broken, just tape it so it looks like the tab is still there....
