Many multiple distances are run for tri's.

You have one REALLY set distance, the Ironman distance although this can often be referred to as a Ulta distance if it isn't associated with the Ironman group.
It is a 2.4mile swim, 112mile bike, and 26.2mile bike. The Championship for this distance is the Iron Hawaii or Iron Kona in Kona Hawaii.

Next up is the 1/2 or 70.3. It is basically a half ironman. (The 70.3 is the total mileage) 1.2 miles swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 run.

Next down on the traditional "road' Tri's are the international/olympic/tinman distances. It is a 1 mile/1.5k swim 24.8 mile/40k bike, and 6.2 mile/10k run. There is some
slight variation within this distance as clubs adjust the bike and swim to their facilities and courses available.

Everything under the international distance tends to get called a sprint, with the most common "sprint" distance being half of the internationals. 750m, 20k, 5k.

For distances that are half of the "normal sprint" or under they are often referred to as super sprints.

Lots of little locals with all kinds of other distance variations, and the off-road/mountain biking versions can have their own variations.

I've only heard of super sprint, sprint, olympic, half-ironman and ironman.
oh - theres also a "long distance", which is double the olymic distance.

but there are lots of "unofficial" distances too, as local competitions modify the distances to meet their site.
