Every time I read the Bible I can’t help but notice that god is a total putz.

Example:

He condones slavery.

Murder and genocide are okay in his book.

He whines and throws a hissy fit if you call him some other name like Baal.

Don't get a much better war-god than Yahweh...

Except when you point out the fact that his people are oppressed all the time...

Well, if we had made Him up, He probably would have been a lot nicer. You know, not gotten in such a panic about "holiness" and taking care of our neighbors, parents, giving money to the poor. He would have posed for a lot of Lisa Frank folders and pencils. He probably would have liked puppies and rainbows and gave everyone free lollipops. But we didn't make Him up. So, we have to accept that He has a personality, is in control, and does things that we don't like all the time. But your parents were probably like that when you were a child (in control, did things you didn't like or understand) and you're not trying to disprove THEIR existence, are you? And, how many times have you read the Bible?

Obviously, you're reading the new testament. I don't take anyone's "word" for truth ... I find truth in the reality of my own life.

Sometimes it's better to let go of what teachers teach and learn from the personal inspiration within. I think a one on one relationship with my Creator is better than being associated with a herd of lost sheep. - It's not God's fault that many have misconstrued Him for their personal gain ... Lucifer did the same thing.

Our Creator only asks one thing, "Live with an open heart and all that you seek will follow."

yes, i'm sure they could have because I'm sure the level of competition for science fiction at the time was on a par with the writings of george lucas' original star wars story, indiana jones, the writings of Robert E. Howard, and Frank Miller.

It is not thier fault they didn't have any competition to make a better god.
