If we put up trim around the windows to hide the rough-in, is it necessary to have window sills, or no? Any advice would be helpful.

The extension on our house (built after the original house), does not have sills on the windows -- it's just drywall, metal corner bead, and texture. I hate it.

No you don't HAVE to have sills, but if you like them, put them in.

Acually -- come to think of it, there is one window (we used it for a window A/C unit), without a sill, that has water damage in the wall below the window. If it had a sill, the water damage might not have been done.

No but depending on the trim you may need sills to make it look better.

Its your preference, You got to ask yourself, Do they look Aesthetically correct. Ive seen new construction with and without. You can make them out of pine and paint them, its not that much money.
