Take a look at the Phoenix, it's a new electric pickup truck:

*
Using Altairnano batteries (based on the latest research from MIT), the Phoenix can:
*
- Drive up to 250 miles per charge
- Carry 5 passengers plus cargo at 95mph
- Charges batteries in as little as TEN minutes.
- Has a battery life of 250,000 miles (never replace the batteries.)
*
-The cost of electricity to drive, in most places, is only a penny or two per mile.
-The cost of maintenence is also very low. Electric motors have only one moving part, and can last decades without repairs.
*
Cost is about $45,000. Expensive, but they are hand-built. The cost will drop if they are mass-produced. These are only being sold to fleet customers this year, but will be for sale to the public next year.
*
If you're nervous about the high cost, buy an electric car conversion (an old car converted to electricity.) These cars are based on old battery technology, but are very inexpensive - as little as $5000.
*
I drive one of these. Since it's old battery technology, my battery pack lasts about 25,000 miles, if I take care of it, and costs about $1000 to replace. So that works out to about 4 cents per mile. My electricity cost is 1 cent per mile, so my total cost per mile is 5 cents. Other maintenence costs are very low. It's a very old car (from 1981) but the motor has never needed service in 25 years. Here's a picture of it:

There is no mass produced electric only vehicle out right now (Including the Tesla, which is 100% electric but not a mass produced vehicle. Ive seen articles that showed people paying 100,000 for a telsa, [not exactly for everyone]). There are Gas/electric hybrids. I would recomend the Prius or the insight. They seem to be getting the best reviews as of late. If you are looking for a small suv Hybrid, the Ford escape hybrid got good reviews also.
The Telsa is a 100% electric, but only recomended if you can afford it)
It will be a while before you see real electric vehicles that are mass produced.

Heck, i'd purchase virtually any EV that were given one hundred and twenty MPC (miles in line with cost). I sat down and discovered what my vehicle needs are and on my "worst" day i'd placed on 80 4 miles and that takes position in effortless words a million day a month. i do not favor three hundred miles of variety or that quick 5-10 minute magic recharge. because i'd depart the residing house each morning with an entire load of "gasoline". So gassing up in the course of the day isn't required. And for that in some unspecified time sooner or later a year I rigidity to my dad's residing house 325 miles away, i'd pass all the way down to employ A smash, employ a Prius with the money i did not spend on gasoline some thing of the year and nevertheless have a fatter wallet. I absolutely have my eye on a vehicle observed as the eBox. It has the practicality i favor and the performance to make me ignore that it runs on batteries. it ought to no longer be obtainable anymore, notwithstanding the Nissan Denki (jap for electric powered) dice appears like a reliable replace. i love the concept-about passing gasoline stations. reducing my CO2 emissions is only an advantage. truly frankly, i'm getting drained of paying turban donning zealots to attempt to kill me and my acquaintances with each dollar shoved into the gasoline pump.
