My sister is mentally handicapped and doesn't always do well w/control of her young kids. She wants help. Family tries to help but we don't all live near each other. They aren't bootcamp bad (yet) we're trying to prevent that. We need a program or place that keeps kids busy while still teaching them good manners and such.
Suggestions? They're in TX

I strongly suggest three places: 1. church 2. school couselor and 3. Boys and Girls Club of America.

First, church, whichever she choose can help her teach her children the morals which she most identifies with. There is a lot of really good people who will step up and assist a handicapped young single mother and be very happy to do so. Just be carefull that too many individuals are not involved as some have very different ideas of what that particular religions beliefs should be.

Second the school counselor has many different resources which can be of great assistance to your sister and her children. The school counselor can help find the right target resources which will be of the most benifit to the children and the family at large and can also help monitor the children at school and report back to your sister what their progress is.

Now, the Girls and Boys club of America or getting the children each a Big Brother or Sister can offer great benifits to the children and give your sister needed breaks. There are many great programs out there which will assist in getting the children some good role models and involving more careing people in their lives.

What a great sibling you are to care so much you reach out to find your sister and your nieces and nephews help. It warms my heart to see somebody who cares so much. Bless you for all you are trying to do for your family members and I wish you all the best life has to offer.
