No? you don't need a lawyer at this point, as has already been said, your insurance will deal with most of this for you before either of you end up actually at the stage where that may be the case. That could be several months away, However, there may be a case for getting some professional advice here. If you write to the insurance company about what happened, they will pass this onto the Cab-drivers insurance, now.. If your wording is ambiguous in any way whatsoever, it may be used against you in court, should it ever get that far. The insurance company will ask you for a detailed explanation and drawings of what happened. Get some advice before submitting this information as once you have done so, the opposition will try to challenge it! That does not mean running out and paying loads of money on a lawyer, just some1who understands the complexities of the situation, tho least if you do seek legal advice, and there are things disputed in court, you have the option of just saying, "well i never really meant it that way" and your lawyer can always state that maybe there where a misunderstanding. YES... Not so uncomplicated now is it? There are so many unknown elements here so do your homework.

If he pulled out "in front of you," then it sounds like you hit him. For him to have hit you, he would have had to back into the side of your car. If there are no witnesses and you didn't take any pictures (which is the very LEAST you should have done) then you might have to get a lawyer. But, like someone mentioned, get your insurance company involved, even though there might not be much they can do without a police report.

My experience with cab companies has always been bad...they all seem to engage in the same practice...deny, deny, deny. This is the attitude of not just the driver, but the cab company themselves. San Francisco cabbies are the worst I've ever seen...they actually tell people to sue them if they want their car fixed.

Just explain to your insurance adjuster your story, and learn what the other guy said, and then explain why his story makes less sense than yours. Usually that's all it takes.

First off, file with YOUR insurance. Your ins co. will fight for you. You might have to pay the deductable but they will make sure to get their money back from the cabby's ins co. if it was indeed his fault.
