in all honesty could it ever be deemed inncoent enough just as a way of saying thank you or would women always percieve it as a date?

depends on circumstances, but yeah, i would think he was interested. So be careful not to hurt someones feelings by leading them on.

ask yourself, would i ask a man 'fancy a drink/bit to eat/movie as my way of saying thank you'
so yes. I think it would sadly. I dont even know if it would matter how you said it, mostly women think that men are only after one thing. It would at least cross her mind, even if you stated that it was definitely not a date.
depends what it is thankyou for aswell.
Are you asking this as you would like an oppertunity to go on a date with a girl without her being too aware of it?

Well, even if it is a way of saying thank you itis still a date. I go out on dates with friends, but dosent mean anything. Just make it obvious that you want to be her buddy, I dont mean some long chat, just dont try and be impressive. Act dorky and do dumb things so she will see you as a friend.

by definition, if she goes with you, she's keeping a "DATE" (certain time,meet at a certain place) when you take her home
you can thank and/or lay on smooches or whatever.
but a date, by any other name is a date (unless it's a rose)
