Many Catholics are heavy drinkers. The Christian denominations I am aware of that prohibit drinking of any kind are Baptist and Seventh Day Adventist. It could also be argued by some that Mormons fit into that category as well, while many do not consider them to be Christian at all. I was raised in both the Lutheran and Methodist churches and Methodists I spent time with were anti-drinking, (my sister was raised in another Methodist group and they were more lax on some things and equal on others) while the Lutherans only allowed alcohol during communion. Any other time was a sin. The Salvation Army doesn't allow alcohol anywhere on their grounds but if you choose to drink alcohol occasionally at home, they're not going to excommunicate you. I'm not familiar with the other denominations' stances on it.

I do find it interesting though that Jesus (and his disciples) drank wine many times in the Bible and no one condemns him (or any of them) for sinning, but if anyone else who is a Christian drinks, then people say they're automatically going to hell, no questions asked. Why does this double standard exist and why does the Church allow it to continue? Either it's a sin for all or none but it can't be both.

Our bodies are temples and we should treat them as such. If you have a glass of wine once or twice a year (holdiays, or something) I don't think you will go to hell--but I have chosen to not to drink any alcohol as I believe that God would prefer it that way. Besides, we have alot more drink choices than they did back in the day.

Drinking alcohol is not a problem. Over-drinking is.

To keep the followers from crossing the line, many denominations simply state that christians cannot drink alcohol.

You thought wrong! :)

Jesus drank wine (e.g. the marriage feast at Cana). some Christian denominations do have rules against drinking alcohol, but most do not. What all teach--Catholic and Protestant--is not to use alcohol to excess. Moderation is okay--durnkeness is not.

Christ often shared wine and it is used in the Bible to illustrate learnings.. Catholics actually drink wine (as a representation of Christ's blood) at mass.

Num 6:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate [themselves] to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate [themselves] unto the L-D:

Num 6:3 He shall separate [himself] from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.

Only those that take this vow is not to drink at all!

Any adult who wants to. Drinking is not wrong, unless one is pregnant or nursing. Getting drunk is the problem. Think for yourself instead of being told how to live.

I just thought that you couldn't get drunk, I guess drinking wine is okay. My pastor never said not to drink wine.

Very faith is different. Some do and soem don't. Some say that is ok to drink as long as you don't get drunk and some say none at all.
