Classic symptoms of narcolepsy - sleep paralysis, hypnogogia (seeing things that aren't there) and apnoea (your brain forgets to tell you to breathe).
Narcolepsy can be treated with a simple pill but you will have to be tested for it and this involves a visit to your GP who can refer you to a sleep study lab, often at your local hospital.
One thing - avoid alcohol or caffeine before bed as this can worsen the condition. Take a little warm milk and honey and perhaps try a B6 food supplement.
Sleep well!

members of my family have suffered with this, its known as paralysed sleep. I have had episodes of it myself and its bloody frightening. Do you have a partner? if you do and they can learn to recognise the symptoms all they have to do is touch you and you will come out of it. My episodes were all associated with highly stressful periods in my life. I don't know of any medical help you can get but i found that doing some relaxation exercises before going to bed and perhaps a warm milky drink do help.If you go to bed tense and expecting an episode then that's the time they usually occur. look and recognise the stressful parts of your life and try to work on them. for me learning to relax was the way i overcame those episodes. I do wish you well, i know how frightening it can be.

There is actually a name for this 'Kanashi bari' its Japanese and there are studies and all sorts of investigations that have been done on it. My sister in law has had several episodes. In Japan they believe it is a spirit who sits on you. I don't know much about it but I'm sure there'll be stuff on google etc. I do know that it is more common in women and has been linked to a fear of death or something like that. the sinking feeling is sometimes simply your brain wakin itself up again....as for the rest... i think you should go to your gp.... if you have something that happened to you in the past while you were aspeel that scares you, this may be the reason for the screaming etc.... get it checked out!!!

I would say see your GP
Sometimes it could be just Night terrors or 'Bad dreams' but more extream. There are some special hospitals in briton that deal with these sorts of things but only if it is extream. PLEASE, for your sake GO TO YOUR DOCTOR.
