"Open Office" is a free and legal open source software. It's open source meaning that anyone is freely able to download the program and use it at no cost, and they may also download the source code and make changes to the actual program.

The programs from open office are completely legal and FREE. They allow you to create/open/edit and save files in either the Microsoft format or the openoffice format. This makes openoffice totally compatible with the Microsoft products.

We have been using openoffice in our small business and love it. Never had a problem.

Go download it. You won't regret it.

It is absolutely LEGAL and works great! I use it, it is meant to be free, and there's nothing MS Office can do that OpenOffice can't do. It will open MS Office documents, too.
