the catch to this is...i also have my own car. 2-door civic, so it won't fit much. and also.....2 CATS!!!

Sell everything. And buy new stuff when you get here.

I think your best bet is to price u-hauls and tow your car. The cats will be happy in their carries in the car for some of the trip.

your car isn't big enough to tow anything much. Check your owner's manual, though.

You can also try pricing moving companies, but I think they will be alot more expensive.

Only other thing I can think of it post an ad on craigslist to see if someone else is coming this way and wants to split the cost or something.

I agree. Price out moving your stuff versus buying stuff here. Unless you have antiques or family heirlooms, you may be better off leaving your stuff behind.

I believe Serious had it right. It's probably going to be cheaper to sell the big stuff there in Boston, then buy it here in LA. If not, a 5x8 trailer should suffice, and your Civic should be able to two it. however, there might be an added cost of installing a hitch if you don't already have one. Check out Uhaul.com for prices in your area.

Sell everything in Boston and buy new or used stuff once you get to LA. Also re-think the cats. If you are going to rent thats an additional deposit.

The cheapest thing would probably be one of those Uhaul trailers that they attach to your car. I think they put the hitch on for you. It might fit the stuff you are talking about. I moved to SoCal from the midwest once, and I just put most of my stuff in storage and bought cheap stuff when I got there. It sounds like a waste at first, but it is not worth 2250 to move 1200 worth of stuff.

Its going to be REALLY expensive to rent a truck, not to mention scary as hell driving it there. www.uhaul.com or www.penske.com are helpful.

UHAUL is the way to go. Gas is high now too.
Probably best to get a hitch for the truck to hook up your car, fill one truck going one way and set up an apartment for a month or so in advance. Storage is easy and cheap to find in LA.

Housing will break the bank quickly.
