Fire goes up because heat rises. If you hold a match right side up, it will burn down slowly because the heat is directed away from the fuel source (the matchstick). If you hold a match upside down it will climb the matchstick quickly and burn you because the heat is directed toward the fuel source.

It's gaseous with water vapor mixed it. Wood, for example, holds a fair amount of water.

The reason it rises is due to heat.

My friend fire is neither liquid,nor gas.It is a stage/phase of oxidation process.

burning of fire is an oxidation process. as soon as this process start , air around it is become hot and rises up. with the support of hot air fire is going up.
